How to get first or second place for particular keyword?

Hello guys,
Although all my articles get good ranking in google and fetch some good amount of traffic. I always love to try some new keywords to get in top place.
Recently i posted an article related to "Hdfc mobile recharge" or "hdfc online recharge" and i got it in first page in couple of days. But after that it is fixed at middle of first page.
Is it possible to rank it to first or second place.
There are so many keywords for which my site is ranked in middle of the first page and is getting only 5% of that keyword traffic, how to get them to first or second place.

Well thatz how it is the whole SEO stuff alongwith bookmarkings and submissions is a boring job. However you still have to do what is the most boring among all and that is link building, commenting, participating in forums and make sure your account is active at all times. To get higher in the rankings you have to be doing your link building campaign at the similar pace as they are updated in google search engine

Firstly I would say that the most important thing for you to be doing is looking at the people that are in position one for any terms that you want to rank 1st.
Analyse their on page SEO and the amount of links that are pointing to their site. This gives you a starting point for what you need to achieve to rank 1st.

Remember, you should never aim to match a competitor, you should always aim to blow them out of the water. If they have 1000 links you should build 2000. if they have a keyword density of 3% you should go for 6% (be careful not to go too high though).
Apply this mentality when focusing on each keyword and you will be in a good position before you know it!
