I recently launched my own brand of skin care products and would like to contact other ecommerce sites about carrying my products. Is there a standard way to do this? I've been pitching my products and offering competitive wholesale rates but so far nothing. Do a lot of ecommerce sites work with distributors? Maybe drop shipping marketplaces? Anyone know the norm?
Skin Care products is going to be a tough niche, there are hundreds of options to choose from and a lot of people like to go with the big brands because they see girls like Julianne Hough using the product in commercials. I think a good way to get started with this would be to find small niche sites that only sell skin care products and then send them some samples so help persuade them to put them in their store. If they have tried samples and they enjoyed your product it will be a lot easier for them to put it on their website and advertise it. No one wants to sell a product that people wont end up liking, so sending them some samples will give them some trust in selling your product especially since it isn't name brand. Look for small online stores, and start there. Twitter will be a great way to find some of those, then pitch your product and offer some samples.
Yep, been starting with the small sites. Offering samples is a great idea, I have a shipment on the way now, will start offering them to everyone.
That's how I got into my first online stores/brick and mortar. I designed and had manufactured a unique product for Xbox 360 Controllers, so I contacted LAN Gaming Centers (basically places where kids can go to play xbox, playstation, computer games, etc.) and sent out 3-4 samples to them and had them put them on the Xbox controllers they had so that gamers there could test out the product. Everyone was curious as to what they were when they picked up the controller and fortunately most the feedback was positive. So since the product was drawing some interest at their gaming centers I gave them some wholesale pricing and quite a few centers starting stocking them in house.
Clever strategy, thanks for sharing. I'll definitely prioritize sending out samples. So sites that offer many different brands, they negotiate deals with each and every brand individually? Or are there distributors that cater to online retailers?
Hi Inter, Though your products are purely based on health category, you may concentrate on top searchable keywords to make your presence in SERP. It will automatically bring traffic to your website. If your products are worthful and meets customers needs it will convert you into leads. For better results you can handle some tricky methods by offering discounts, run contest and coupons. Also advertising is a key factor. So focus on promoting your products online. You can run ads in google, facebook and bing which bring lot more exposure for your products.
Thanks aceriker, I couldn't agree more. My marketing approach covers a number of traffic sources including everything you mentioned. I just seem to have fallen short on knowledge/experience when it comes to getting into other ecommerce sites.
How you promote your ecommerce site will determine how much profit you will make of the business. Once you have your ecommerce site set up, properly filled up with informative text and pictures, submit your URL to main directories. Through advertising also you can promote your ecommerce site and brand.
