I know this is a kind of a generic SEO questions. But would like to start a discussion for us to think this deep and share ideas. In any directory getting the latest links crawled asap is very important. People submit to a directory to get their links known to the external world and if a directory's link details page doesn't get crawled then there is no point in submitting to that directory. Some of the road blockers when it comes to delay in crawl are: Less PR - If a directory has less page rank it tends to be crawled pretty slow. (From my experience) Duplciate content - If a directory has garbage and duplicate content SE would not favor in crawling the pages soon. Poor internal linking etc., These are some points that came right off my head, but other factors like poor architecture, poor code and site speed can also slow down crawl rate. On the other hand, to get crawled faster we typically end up putting 'Latest Links' page and then probably give some link juice by adding latest links on the home page. This is what I do and at least most of us here do. I can understand that things like bookmarking and web 2.0 activity can get link details page crawled soon, but I haven't tried them. Also heard things like pinging, sitemap etc., can help. But I am not sure how these things can be done. Have you guys tried anything other than 'Latest Link' page and adding recent links on home page? If so please share and discuss it here.
You answered your own question.... internal linking. Most directories will have a "latest links" page or similar. If it has a link to the details page on that page, then it's 2-clicks away. If you do it on the homepage it is 1-click
@silencer - well said! In my personal experience, pinging the link and getting quick links from social bookmarking sites can also get pages indexed quickly.
Well said Samdar. Getting directory submission in high PR, having original content and good internal links will help. Plus much more, go all the way, get web 2.0 working for you. It is good to diversify, you wouldn't want all your eggs in one basket. With google changing their rules now and then, be safe, have your links in as many different (important) places as possible.
