I'm starting a new social network and I'm trying to get ideas on how to make people enter content at first. It's a new website, so it looks really empty and I guess that people won't really use it until it looks like at least some people are using it. So my question is, how should I get the initial content in it? A contest? Maybe paying people to enter initial posts... ?
Maybe you could start by askingtr your friends and online contacts to join your site and post content and invite their friends to do the same. You could also buy traffic and signups. If you want members that come back to your site again and again you're going to need to get targeted traffic that's genuinely interested in your site.
I know I'm going to have to find targeted traffic eventually, but I don't really want to invest in that with an empty website! Do you know where/how I could buy singups/"content writers"?
You can also find signups/content writers at places like fiverr or microworkers , theres a multitude of similiar sites if you google it.
The initial content should be put by you to attract traffic. After the traffic is attracted, then they will automatically start writing content.

Just ask your friends to write the initial contents, that would be the easiest and cheapest. And you're right, plan a contest so more people will become more interested to join your site. Plus don't forget to optimize so more people will know your site's existence.
Make sure you are promoting it on other social networks too. A lot of people are looking for new things. Your idea for a contest is good. Or a number of small contests. Say a weekly give-away or bonus so people keep coming back. You could tie the contests into some sort of social activity like a virtual treasure hunt. Mahlon
Hi. We recommend taking the time to go out and contact bigger places. Setting up some sort of partnership with other places can definitely help you gain people that will add content. You have to be patient and persistent. It will all work out...good luck
Hi there, Start by writing about things that are going on now in this society. Things that will attract people to want to read. Also ask people to leave comments about what they have read. This is a way to bring in traffic. Speak with friends, family and also create blogs about your social site to bring in traffic.
