There are a few ways to do this if you are looking at web design... 1. SEO - Either do this yourself or hire someone to do this to get you up in the search rankings. This being said I would assume in your line of work the competition would be quite hard so maybe start with some longtail keywords. 2. Contact current businesses with webpages (that generally look bad) and offer your services (could do manual searches on this by identifying business types that may have a basic site) you could search for certain phrases in google which can be found on incomplete sites or "sites in a box" etc 3. Find email lists for businesses and mail drop them. There are loads of ways you just need to go for it. It is just a numbers game, you may get less than 1% interest in what you do but send 1,000 emails and you could get 10 leads. Then just work out which method has the best ROI on time/money.
