Well you get the backlinks by posting a comment but the chances are 20% not more than that. One more thing your comment should add to that post. Not just for visting my site so and so. Better way is go for article submission then directory submission, bookmarking, blogging, link exchange and then SMO. One more thing try out link waiting technique. I hope you could get better results by doing only this.
When building backlinks it is important to use multiple techniques ie don't just rely on directory submissions or social bookmarking. I personally use about 15 different methods. Also build links gradually, don't get greedy ... slow and steady always wins the race.
