Beware of putting links in Wikipedia without following guidelines. If links are removed then chances are that they blacklist your website and you cannot put your website link again. Even they put Ip in blacklist sometime if continuously spammed for links.

Your website must be related to the WIKI content and it should be useful. I have 3 backlinks from WIKI.

 

Most importantly, make sure you are adding value to the page. If you edit an article and add your link, someone actually reviews the change and has the power to revert it if its too spammy (i.e. just changing a link to your site).

If you add some information and add a reference to your website as the source of this information, the link will usually stick (I've got 5 on at the moment for one site I'm running, all done like this, all still there after 2 months). Also make sure you make a note of what you changed in the optional section when you save the changes to the page, this will make it look more like you are trying to help the site, not just get a link back to your site.

About making an account, I've not made an account yet and had no problems, but it may help (or not if you are just being spammy).
