How to get back visitors to visit old Blog Post!

One of the questions people repeatedly ask me is how to get people’s attention back to old content. Truly, this is one of the most infuriating problems faced by bloggers these days. They work hard to develop their blog and write useful content, and end up having heaps of archives, which no one really reads. People don’t really bother exploring archives of a blog, new entry is all they read.

So you have any solutions for this question

Put a random post widget in the sidebar. Using tags, list related posts at the end of an article.

Write a patch up post. Like notifying the recent visitors about your old pillar posts. It works effectively.

Or else take a note of your pillar posts and put them in a noticeable section like a jQuery slider which displays your prominent posts(I am working on this for my blog).

Other method is to point to the old posts in your new posts by using the keywords in a clever manner.

You may try to include the URL of the particular blog in the articles during article submission so that some traffic can be built for the old blog initially.

If you're using WP 3.0, create a new menu called "Featured Posts" and put it in the sidebar. Link to your best posts there.

Most popular post widget, related post at the end of each article, recent category post or your own customize widget with link to post you think the best.

Good and unique contents make me read blogs and bookmark them. I even share it with friends with the same interest.

So maybe you can start there...

Well, this is very important for directing the attention of your new readers to old posts. I've researched a lot about this. I think you must read my article on Internal Linking.

I suggest to list the random posts too.

I got this feature at my site, but damn the featured slider is not working!

Apart from above mentioned way, you can also link your older posts in your new posts. It will help you take your visitors to old posts and also improves interlinking.

When writing a new post, think back to other archived posts which may be relevant, then add the URLs of these old posts at the end under 'further Reading' or 'Related posts'

Personally I like the idea of linking back to previous posts so your current reader is enticed to explore your antecedents.

Effectively it means writing a Where are we Now? article about what you have written and the topics and interviews you have covered, and then putting it all into an article say, once a month.

Like on TV how they have compilation episodes, or those montage episodes of The Simpsons where they sit on the couch and reflect on what they have been doing.

Just take your inspiration from other media sources....

How about a Best of Summer 2010 blog post?
