You need to create some very interesting content that people will talk and blog about. Once you've created something that you think you would link to yourself, submit it to some social bookmaking sites and get the word out about it.

    Webdirectory submissions
    Articles + distribution
    Try this
Olso google show 1% of total backlinks so for verification try search.yahoo.com
    link:www.yoursite.com
Google olso updates backlinks like once at 3 months or so

get the list of free web directories from info.vilesilencer.com

Apply for links and see what happens after 7 days. Many directory owners don't maintain daily so 7 days should be ample.

I usually waited for one week after sending a link exchange request, then send another one and wait for 2 more weeks. Only then I deleted the links on my sites which I didn't get any response.

Effective Link Building takes time. Sometimes it takes up to 6 months to see whether you achieved what you expected or not. You can hardly judge how effective your actions were in a month or so (unless it's time for Google update:)).

When you start Link Building campaign make clear what you need backlinks for: higher PR, more traffic, site authority, etc. It won't surprise me if you want all of that.
It's natural. You are running your website for gaining profit out of it. So, you need work for higher PR, more traffic, and site authority all together.

Of course backlinks are of great help here. Though not all backlinks can add much value to your site. It's important to get more one-way links than reciprocal ones as they are more valuable for search engines. These links should look natural (be embedded into content or surrounded by a brief text description if possible and if necessary). You need to get backlinks from relevant sites of different PR. Don't strive after huge number of backlinks. The number not always means quality.

Submission to webdirectories proves to be effective as well. Just choose relevant ones.
Try to use article submission and social bookmarking (the latter is extremely popular today).

Also check your backlinks with various tools. One is surely not enough.

    Regards,

    Angie

All of this is part of off-page optimization.

If you post to an article site regularly, that helps greatly. It does take time and patience but it will pay off if you are persistent.

What method are you using to check backlinks? You should create a Google Webmaster Tools Account. There is a feature in there that gives you a more accurate count of your backlinks.

I'm not sure what strategy you've been implementing, but there could be a plethora of reasons your not getting backlinks. For one, many directories take months to add free one-way links and even reciprocal links. For quicker backlinks try article submissions or link exchanges with fellow DP members in the link exchange section of the forum.

Web master tools are free and right from Google. IMO you can't do any better than that. I wouldn't optimize a site that wasn't listed on a webmaster tools account.

I think the reason why you are not seeing any back link currently because your site is not well indexed yet.

That is correct! Many people think backlinks will appear in Google like manna from heaven. It takes time and will usually appear in Yahoo first.:)
