How to get AdWords Dislay ads shown cheap and reach a wide audience

    Hi,

I just signed up for AdWords, and I have got some display ads.

I have a niche which is really broad, so it can be shown on just about any website. But how do you set up the account so that it's shown on all sites?

I have tried bidding for common words such as "I, for, you, me" etc, but the ads haven't begun showing yet. Any advice on how to reach a broad audience, and still get the displays for cheap?

    Here's my advice:

    1. Stop what you're doing. You're doing everything wrong. Delete what you've done so far before you lose money for nothing. Not that I think your ads will show.

    2. Learn how to use the system properly before restarting.

    Hi,

First. Thank you for your reply.

Second. Let say my niche were Credit Cards. I could then pay so that my ads are shown every time a article about economy (and all the economy related terms) show up. That would give me a handful of clicks each year, because: It's not the top topic to begin with, but in my native language (with just a few million speaks) it's even more seldom to find a website - with Google Display ads (the "flash like" ads, not the text ads) - which have something on my topic.

When browsing through the web (in my language) I find that websites which have Google "flash ads" dislay ads which are totally irrelevant to the readers (ads in a foreign language, and about "free games", or dubious sms services). I guess I shouldn't have used the word "dislay" in my thread, but in lack of a better word, that's what I wrote. Sorry about that. I have text ads running now, on sites specific to my topic (brings me a little traffic, but not noteworthy). I am trying to mke the flash display ads work.

So my question is: When running "flash ads", how do you set it up to reach a broad audience? (Or is it wrong to use it that way, because the CTR and QS will go down?)

Your mistake, as well as that of many others, is trying to reach a "broad audience". You want to narrow your audience. The ones most likely to be interested in your offer.

The content network (now called display) doesn't work like search. Using "I", "me", "for", "you" will not work. I'm not sure what it will do (probably no ads shown) but that's the wrong approach. You want to show on sites where your demographics is most likely to be. And why not on the search network where they are looking for you, thus qualifying themselves with they keywords? I use search a lot more than content.

There's no trick to text or image ads. They work the same way: they show if people click on them.

Yes. I agree. They would be more interested. But the problem is that if I narrow it down, I can't get the volume up to decent hights...

Well, some of the other advertisers are getting it done (I don't know which words they bid on). But their ads are showing, despite that I come (with a cookie clean browser) into a site which doesn't have their topic...

I am thinking sites where there aren't any specific adwords flash ads which matches, would be a good source for cheap clicks (slim to none competition, right now many only get ads in languages we don't speak, or for irrelevant things like doubious SMS services or similar).

I have search ads running (short and long tail, for relevant keywords only). It's just that the volume doesn't amount to anything... Going after demographics would be a good idea. But the thing with AdWords (as I have seen it) is that the content network is large because of the sum of many small parts (website). So I would have to go an specifically choose from a endless list of barely-visited-blogs.

I am thinking there must be a way to get my ads shown where the "SMS ads" are showing right now. It's just hard to figure out how they get it done...

It's 6:54 pm now... have you been banned yet? As Lucid said in the first post above... "Pause your entire account immediatly before you are banned for life ... that is if its not too late already... once banned its difficult to get up and running again with sneaky tactics...

Since you seem so green.. take some time and search for ads like what you are doing to get some ideas. Then see what keywords they are using.. spend a week or two checking the same vendors to see if they last. Its a pretty sure bet that any credit card advertiser that runs the same ads week after week they must be working.. Always try to do something that has already proven to work.

But bottom line.. pause your campaign before its too late.... I have never in my life heard of anyone using keyphrases like I, you me.... hee...hee.. Thank goodness you posted for advice here before its too late.... its not too late is it?

    Good luck...

IF you could afford a hundred fifty bucks for a one month of Keyword Spy you can get a list of 75% of the keywords of each of your competiors. Its a monthly tool, and a good one at that.. you get a copy of all their keywords and all their ads.. I am not saying steal them, just use them for ideas as to how to do ads and keyphrases that work like gold... for example it will show you all their ads and tell you how many days in the last 6 months they were displayed.... I guarantee you that a pro will not run the same ad for 90 days unless it was working...

Pm me if you like and think you can afford one month of Keyword Spy.. and I will give you a program that will query keyword spy and build you one hell of a package to use for ideas.... it will save you a ton of money to start that way with a proven campaign rather than starting in the dark... learing day by day... one hell of a lot more than 150 bucks...

also if you have Skype ring me up on Skype as jackrabbitsec ... the SEC is for Search Engine Cloaker back in the old days.

Just be sure to cancel before the next month is due.... you will have more than enought data in a month.. as they have all the data on file for the last year... you just grab it and run.... and while in there if you have other ideas about other niches grab that too so that you can do more... then later when you are ready to move on sign up for another month... just go in 1 or 2 times a year or each time you have another good idea for a niche...

@tommytx. How do you think they get the SMS-stuff Google flash ads showing on the various sites across the web?

There are so many sites with Google flash ads, where there doesn't exist any flash ads (because there aren't many advertisers) which fit. So when there's not something which fits, who should get their ad displayed there, and how?

Yes, I agree. Find something which works. But the problem is: How do they make their ads show. Do they pick out the tens of thousands of sites with Google flash ads manually? Or do they do something else?

@last post from tommytx. Yes, that would work great. Take this one for example; http://www.spyfu.com/Domain.aspx?d=-4464955697679357739
I can get many thousand keywords, they are using, from that list. Only problem is; those keywords are for text ads, and relevant for their text ads. I am trying to find the keywords (if they use keywords) which makes their (non relevant) ads flash ads display when there's nothing else to fill it...

I am really busy at the time. But I guess I'll give you a ring later on.

Get my Adwords FAQ. It will answer some, if not all your questions. Ads are shown based on quality (higher click rate than competitor) and bids.

Forget about keyword spy tools. It doesn't matter what others are using as keywords, only which ones are best for your product. The only tool you need is the one in your head.

Let's say I had a website about credit cards. I could find a really long tail of keywords by using Keyword Spy. Although I cannot use all those terms in the search engine. Because they don't apply to me. I could use them in display ads...

If you have searched for «some economy related thing» in the past, then you would see my Flash ad when you visit a website with Google AdSense. Even though it's days since you did the search, and even though the website you visit don't have a economy related topic...

That would give volume. So -- I think the Keyword tool is very valid. I think it may -- and I say may -- help me get the Flash ads out to a broader audience.

AdWords has a Contextual targeting tool in Beta, which seems to match what you're looking for.
I'm not sure if it's available on your account (under "opportunities" tab) , see:
    http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=187630

And a general tip for Google's display network: monitor the different placements very closely, through Networks tab, and remove the under-performing. Do it fast, before spending many $.

I'd even recommend starting with specific placements only (check "managed placements only" on the settings tab).

A few significant placements which are working fine for me:
    ehow.com
    cnet.com
    wikihow.com
    articlesbase.com

You can also check out Ad Planner to find proper placements, see: http://searchengineland.com/google-ad-planner-launches-offers-site-demographic-profiles-14261

    Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions of website, but my problem is that my target groups language isn't english, so they aren't all that much visited...
