You should show that you have something specific with you video-sharing service: some, maybe small, but useful innovation, which could be hit any attender.

Use a lot more paid advertising means..Sites like 'Buy sell ads{dot} com' allow you to do this essentially. Also, you may wana offer people more incentives to use your site.For example give them stuff to post their videos on your site. Am sure you are quite aware how big and powerful Youtube is, so to out do them is going to require quite a bit of work on your part and this is something you should look at. Another really cool way is to work on getting your site indexed on Youtube videos. For instance,post stuff about it, and then have links to popular videos on Youtube to further draw attention to it.
Google may not be an option for your home page, but you can write lots of articles in specific searches to drive traffic, but I'd say You Tube, Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon and paid ads are the way to go. StumbleUpon is especially effective, cause it puts your site directly in front of people, but make sure you learn how it works first.
You should use google adwords to promote a new site. If your site is ecommerce advertise a banner on mail.yahoo.com for $10,000 a week. You could get millions of visitors through yahoo mail advertising very quicky. But your site must be worth to earn huge money once you get visitors.
