How to get a job in California while living 2000 miles away?

    Greetings,

California seems like a kick-ass place to settle down in with the best job opportunities for my skill set. I have a 4 year BS degree in physics, minor in mathematics, graduated with honors and nearly 7 years self-taught computer/web programming skills, including LAMP in the last few years. I've built a variety of my own online businesses ranging from affiliates, Adsense, commerce, drop shipping and now a new niche research and online auction site that is competing directly with eBay in a small niche (becoming more popular by the day) and over 100 other websites. I know I can built just about anything with LAMP now but I need a "real" job.

The problem is I live over 2000 miles away in the mid-west USA. I am also broke so I can't just travel back and forth to California for interviews. I am also not sure how bad unemployment and competition is there either. I know silicon valley would be great for programming, physics and math though. By reading the job applications there, it doesn't seem too hard to become a junior PHP or LAMP developer there and one staffing company thought I was good enough but didn't like the fact that I was 2000 miles away...

I'm guessing there are plenty of silicon valley people here at DP including Shawn Hogan. So how is the job market there, especially for "self-taught" PHP skills without a Computer Science degree? How are things in California? What would you do in my case and what would be a good plan to get a job in California being 2000 miles away with very little money?

    Thanks
    Kind regards

Really you need to establish yourself into making enough money to move down and try to find a job. Not many people will hire someone who they never even met. Also, its almost sounds like you never been there before by the way you talk about it. Its not all that great. Like any state it has poverty.

That's true, I've never been there before except through the internet, so I don't know much about the area either.

I heard that California is only good for the super rich, but I've never been there either.
