Atleast thats what i did for my movie site and I ended up getting a PR jump from 1 to 4. So how did that happen. Well, I wrote a post on this. I dont mean to offend anyone building links for PR. Its just my opinion on it. http://techsuave.com/2008/05/03/how-to-get-a-high-pr-doing-nothing/ Do reply here or on the post.
I would say well done but you haven't done anything LOL. Interesting read and I do agree most points. I never have to buy links because I do all the backlinking myself.
This is niche specific... because obviously if there are only a few articles on a topic, and you write a great one, then you'll be on the top of the google rankings... But i checked and you're not in the top 100 for movie reviews or movie previews... so what kind of traffic are you getting? enough from long tails? PR is useless unless you want to sell links, but then if you get caught, then you're screwed cuz you'll lose the P.R. But, building links is a huge part of search engine rankings.... so if you are building links then your search engine rankings will increase as will your search engine traffic, and traffic is a major goal for link building...
Interesting post on your blog. I think most agree that having great content is very important. Especially in the blog world, getting natural backlinks is easier to do. Now try doing that with a true brick and mortar business - cement contractors. What is easy for some niches is nearly impossible in others. You got your point across about not chasing PR without disrespecting anyone. Overall, I think it is a good post.
very nice article. definately content is king. but we also need to promote the content...if people dont know what we provide they will never know. i guess initial MARKETING is needed..once you get visitors PR hardly matters
I just spent the last month building up content on a new site and only getting a handful of backlinks. I got the Google love tap with a PR of 3 from nothing. Can't extrapolate from just one instance, but in my mind I think content comes first, then major backlink building. Besides, would you want people coming to something before the content is there to hold them (unless you're doing MFA)?
Exactly.....My movie site is PR4 but because its soo competitive.....never will a review or preview be on the first few pages of google. When people search for something movie related...and they search for scenes or characters thats where i get the traffic for my movie site. My tech blog a PR0....if u search for example Most Expensive Domains or 10 expensive domains....its No:7 and No:1 respectively.....So Page rank is of no importance here....its what people search for that matters.
Less is sometimes more. We are all so keen to build links, if we worked on quality instead it can sometimes be much better.
while you say you got PR4 doing nothing and people found your site useful therefore linked to yours, you still suggest the importance of backlinks on your Point 5. no one can deny the importance of backlinks in achieving PR. you can create a good content site but without marketing it, no one will know about the site and link to yours. therefore, marketing is still the key no matter how good the site itself is.
A very specific topic makes it easiser to rank well for. Nice work but it takes alot of work for a more competitive keyword term.
many comments on the post on my blog....the last commenter said that it does matter cos then only will you get quality visitors as only then will your post be higher in the search engine.... I think its down to your keywords and how relevant your topic is with respect to what a person is searching for. Whether your PR is 0 or 10....if your content is exactly what people are searching for then it really doesnt matter.
