    You can pay very little for a 2 year domain around £6-00 123-reg.co.uk or go for a sub domain on somewhere like wordpress.com

    There was an offer promo on register.com where you could register a free domain for 1 year, I wonder if that still works.

    Well, you can get a free subdomain from co.cc, it's a great tool for new webmasters to learn the way DNS works before they buy an actual domain.

    You can also look around at Promotion forums to see if any of them are holding contests.

    And finially, you can follow guides like freedomainguide.info to earn a "free" domain. You will get it free in due time, but you have to complete offers and such to get there. Worth it as a last resort.

    There is no way to get a .com domain free.. you can try godaddy to get domain as low as 2$-4$ .
