How to get a CD ROM backup of my database driven site

I have several database driven sites hosted by a company that gives me no control panel access so I have no way of backing up my databases. What I need to do immediately for my own peace of mind is backup these sites any way I can.

For example I've asked for a quote from tenmax.com's WebDisc. Is there a better way to get backups of my sites? All I know is that one that logs into my FTP and scans things won't work; it has to crawl the web site and duplicare the content.

Then I need to figure out how to switch hosts. Does anyone know if I can use these CD ROMS to get my sites up and running on another host?

What database server is being used? What scripting languages are available to you? For example there are lots of programs that will backup a mysql database from php. You shouldn't need to pay anyone for access to your data.

That is a tuff one. I would insist on calling them and bothering them until they give you CP access.

Thank you for the responses. I've been caling the web host with no luck. I did manage to back up my sies with "web site dowloader" the 15.00 was well worth the peace of mind that I won't lose everything if the web host folds. Since they don't answer the phone it seems more like when they fold though...

your site really isn't "backed up" unfortunately, without the database. your'e right, all you're getting is the static HTML, which is pretty much worthless for re-compiling your db.

agreed. bug the crap out of your host, don't settle for a ripped, static version of your site. best of luck - hope it goes well.
