Only quality unique article with target keywords in your post that would drive organic traffic to your site. For the question: 1000 unique traffic from search engine is a big damm as you knw. But it could be if all your articles are full of people idea that use it everyday and your got around 4000 articles which are nicely serve your visitors.
Think of it if you only got 1 visitors daily for your 4 posts then 4000 will get your site 1000 google searched traffic everyday. Due to my experience, one of my blog got around 5 unique visitors from only one source of mostly friendly love article.

To get 1000 visitors from search engines need a hard work but it's not impossible. Might you can try my way:

1. Submit your website URL to many search engines in the world. e.g : Google www.google.com/addurl/ , yahoo : https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit (login needed), bing : www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx or you can use freewebsubmission.com for submit to many search engine automatically.

2. Submit your web sitemap too many search engines, e.g : Google : google.com/webmasters/tools/ , Yahoo : https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit , bing : www.bing.com/webmaster

3. If you use wordpress, add SEO plugin e.g All In One SEO Pack and etc.

4. Add good keyword to your website. As selectsplat say you can use https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal for suggestion keywords.

5. Analyze you Meta tag keywords, I'm usually use www.seocentro.com/tools/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html to analyze my web page.

6. Ping your web page. You can use pingomatic.com or other pinger tools. However, if you use wordpress you don't need it because wordpress using pingomatic rpc to automatically ping with pingomatic every update your web.

7. Submit your articles to many social bookmarking sites. e.g. digg, stumbleupon and etc.

8. Place link in your signature forum to your web site.

9. Link your web site with higher page rank with your keyword target

10. Comments in Do follow blogs

11. If you have a lot of money, use SEO tools e.g. IBP and etc.

There are too many factors to answer this question... like the volume of the keywords you're targeting, how much competition there is, etc. The best thing you can do for SEO is to build backlinks to your page. Of course, this is a very complicated subject I can't go into in one post. Keep learning.

How much revenue do you project you will make from your site. If it is substantial, spend a part on pay per click to drive traffic to your site. Anyway, pay per click is the fastest way to drive traffic to your site. Only issue is, how will you monetize the traffic generated---for that it may help to have a revenue model, if not formal, at least in your mind

Make your site have 1st position in Google with your Keyword Target with 30.000 Searcher/Day..Guarantee you will have visitor as you want.

 

Get links to your site. The more links there are to your site, the more relevance it will have in some search engine results and the better placement it will get.
