"All method in simple and straight way":

    - use forums and online communities (social bookmarking sites)
    - trade links with other webmasters in your niche
    - submit articels to article submission sites
    - optimize your page for the search engines

Now if you don't know the meaning of these terms, just search them on Google.

    Good luck!

same old info what we get elsewhere.......i'll like to add -
1.add social bookmarking wiget to your site and bookmark your pages.
2.use social networking sites like orkut for advertising your site(I know it's spamming, but can get you good traffic if you do it properly.)

    Thanks for this information.

I've recently attempted the link exhange advice. I researched and added a maximum of 7 external links on 5 of my articles, giving me 35 external links altogether that I'd like to exchange with.

In good manners I added their link to my site first and then e-mailed them via their 'contact us' page to ask politely for an exhange link stating I have already added their site and how useful I think it is for both out users.

Sad thing is! Not a single one of the 35 agreed to give a backlink. (over 2 weeks waiting) :(

My e-mail was polite and resonable, so I don't think it would be that. I'm guessing it is because my site is newish, even though I have pagerank 1.

What would people sugest with this predicament?
