I like using Facebook Ads for targeted traffic to your website. The ability to segment your audience based on your ideal and passionate customer is the key. As you identify the specific needs of your ideal customer, you will drive traffic to your website via your customized page for that market segment.
All inputs here are really good. I'm not a marketing expert but I think it really depends on your website's niche and how you use a certain website for your website's traffic. I still believe content is the king in generating traffic to your website, next is utilizing social media and probably forums and blogs. What I don't believe is having directories as I'm not really sure how it works.

If I only had one choice of how to increase traffic, I would use a tool called "BuzzBundle." This thing is legit. It lets you search for a group of keywords across multiple social media, blog, forum, Q&A site, and video sharing platforms. You can then comment on discussions people are having about a topic you're skilled in, help them out, and present your content as a potential solution for them. Basically, you're interacting with your target audience directly, and giving them a direct route to your content. I've got the free version, so it only let's you see about half of the conversations. But it's more than enough to build some solid traffic to your site. Other than that, I'd focus 100% on guest blogging, networking, and building up my social media following.
That may be true, but is it high quality? I've always been skeptical of which traffic gets sent my way, and if I'm really paying for traffic (read: people) that care about what I'm offering or discussing. What has your experience been like?
Creative & reader engaging content and Social media are the best options to increase the traffic of your website. And the important thing is, this is the real traffic you'll get.
