How to fully take Advantage of Social Bookmarking

I just signed up for Technorati the other day. I'll be the first to admit that I never really used the sites. I signed up on del.icio.us to help another forum member out with an exchange site but quit working on that one (his site actually does not seem to function properly anymore unfortunately).

My question though is this, how does this actually work? Yes, I know you bookmark them but is it like the Alexa rating? How many people you get to bookmark your site and then you are "grand"?

I have been playing with Digg a little but still I don't get it. What the KISS definition of these sites? Is it just about developing incoming links? I see some other users have bookmarked one of my blogs on Technorati. So do these bookmarks count as a link back making the search engines happy or what?

    Thanks!

I am beginning to see. Basically like a custom-built search engine. I have never used any of them for searches so maybe that is why I did not see those benefits. Thanks!

Traffic is one thing, but the best thing about social bookmarking is that people can discover your site, and in the long run it acts as a good link building strategy. Not the LINK on the bookmarking site, but people who are looking for a specefic topic might come across ur site in DIGG or Delisious and link to you.

And there are lots of people who blog the articles on the front page of digg or delicious. THOSE are good links.

Check all the front pagers on DIGG, and click who blogged them. each and every article have been blogged by some other people.

It doesn't mean that you submit a sub-quality article and people will blog it. if the site or article is of interest, it will be linked to...

social bookmarking is just like Breaking news in simple words, or when some one like your website or article, he will share it with other peoples, this way you get traffic and new visitors. mostly people submit there articles once themselves and people read and if they like they bookmark it again.
