    I use the Akismet plugin myself, and then disable commenting on posts I do not want comments on. By default I have commenting off.

    Nowadays, you cannot publish any commenting service without any CAPTCHA control !
    All realiable component for CMS are providing such function.
    With CAPTCHA : No Spam comments
