How to fix an AVI that ran too long

I recently tried to use an infrared camera to monitor the parameters of an experiment I am doing and had the video stream from the camera (the GOBI-384 if that makes any difference) right to the hard drive. I could see the video as it was recording, but the video stopped recording at 4 GB (a by-product, as I understand it, of the 32-FAT setup). Now when I attempt to play the files, every program I try cannot read them. From what I understand, the reason for this is that the .avi file needed to close and when it reached its memory limit, recording stopped and left me with a corrupt file. The file size is still 4GB so I know the information is stored in there, I just don't know how to repair the file. I have tried DivFix++ to no avail, as it seems just as unable to recognize this as a file as the multimedia programs. I have next to no understanding of programming and code, so explanations in layman's terms would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Have you tried importing the file into windows movie maker and saving it as an MPG or WMV? Besides windows movie maker, there are some free conversion scripts at sites like download.com that can convert video files from one format to another.

and although it may be some work. Format your drive for NTFS and you won't have the 4GB issue.

I dont sure that it help you, but you can try to use VideoCharge Studio for fix problem.

    1. Use a Wizard:

    2. Select "Without-recompression"

It case, you save file to valid AVI container and I think that your file will be work.
