On one of my gaming related sites, i am considering to hire a copywriter to help me to write a page to promote a browser game so that i can take an affiliate commision. Now (with the exception of adsense), I personally never advertise or promote a product or service without actually using it. I would like to hire someone to find a copywriter that is passionate about my specific mmorpg and has extensive playing experience. Is that unreasonable? Should i just hire anyone who knows that specific game, or should i write it myself then have hire just anyone at random to re-write it for me? (im not that bad as a writer, its just that im not that good either) You can imagine that if i state the specific game that it is, that everyone will pm me and claim to be pros at it. While im sure that anywriter can look at existing sites as 'research' and write an article from that, i am just not sure that this is the correct approach. My aim would be for a original page written from a passionate player that is so well written that it drives a high percent of visitors to the site im promoting. Anythoughts from buyers / writers would be welcome.
it would be to promote the best features of a game, for which i am registered as an affiliate. A good copywriter is said to be able to get a high rate of conversion, but should i hire any random copywriter that has no experience with the product im promoting? I think its best to find a copywriter with experience with that product. Do any copywriters write about products they use and recommend? or only what they are paid to promote?
they only promote when they get paid and some of them write for their own products because they eventually get paid for... Hiring a copywriter can be expensive.. I don't know how many visitors you're getting in per day etc. But hiring a legit copywriter can be $2000 - $10 000 If you want a new copywriter without any or minimum portfolio it is about $200.... you can also write it yourself....there are a lot of good sources out there how to write your own copy.. it's also a good investment for yourself for in the near future? when you're promoting another project? I also saw a great check list for copywriters.. you can find it right here http://morethanwordsonly.com/checklist-copywriting/ good luck with that!
its a new site that i am still developing so 0 traffic. I figured if i could find a good writer it would be worth (to me) 5c-10c per word. I will just do it myself. cheers for the tips though. ill look over them later.
I think the gaming world is a bit different marketplace. A good copywriter could certainly promote your game. But, only a true gamer would know what other games to compare it to and what makes it unique. Sure, a good copywriter would ask you what makes your game better or different but I think gamers respond better to other gamers than they do to promotional language. My suggestion would be to get several gamers to review your game; the more well-known in gaming circles, the better. Take their words and give them to a copywriter to polish. But, don't polish it so hard that it loses the excitement that the gamers, who of course love your game , have in their reviews. While it's true that top-tier copywriters can command as much as $10,000 to just pick up their pencil, there's a lot of us here in the trenches who offer their services for a few hundred dollars. If you want to find a writer and gamer in the same person, I would think you could mention the game. I am assuming that there would be some questions you could ask that only a player could answer. Things like, on level 10, what color is the background, the trees, the enemies, etc. Make the question about a level or stage high enough that only an avid gamer could reach and you would ensure the person has truly played your game for more than 5 minutes. Good luck.
Have you tried gaming forums? There are so many gamers online , maybe you could find one that is willing to help you. I understand that you want release a great product on your site that is made for gamers -- why not use them to help you instead of doing everything on your own. I completely second what YMC said. You could also go to freelancer websites like guru.com or odesk and search for gamer writers there. And specking of questions -- why not just do a survey type thing? I love surveys.. maybe you could go to gaming forums ask them to do your survey in exchange for something and use their answers as a way to build up your site. I hope this helps!
