    Hello Everyone,
This is my little give back to community of internet commerce fellows. Here is my comments and observation of how to locate products to sell.
As we all know there is plenty of companies who offer databases of suppliers or products. (such as saleshoo, doba, drop ship direct ext.) There is two categories of them. Ones who offer dripshipping service, basically you buy from them and they claim that they stock products ext. Other who offer database of suppliers and you have to contact them and set up. They say that they pre screen them and do some other work for you as well as offer some tools that supposedly figure out popularity of product and how hard it is to sell them.
First of all, I think that those tools a pretty worthless, since they are checking popularity and how hard it is to sell products by keyword you entered in search box. In reality, there is plenty of keywords for each category of product which might have less competition for exact same products.
Also, many of those companies try to make you believe that you will not be able to find manufacturers on Google, or that most of them wouldn't work with small internet retailers. That is a lie. Most of the manufacturers are easily locatable through Google. Here is how I think is best to do it.
    1) Once you figured out what you'd like to sell and don't know who manufacture it go to Google products and enter product you'd like to sell. On left side you will see menu "any product" make sure you navigate and narrow it down to exactly what you would like to sell. Then below you will find "brands" menu, click more at the bottom and here is a good start for all brands who manufacture products you'd like to sell.
    2) You can also go to Google and search for product. This way you will be able to find some websites who sell huge variety of products that you are looking for. Most large websites offer to narrow down by brand. You can copy all brands. Do it with few websites. Add all them to one list of brands and in addition to results that you found on Google products you going to have pretty much completed list of manufacturers for your product.

Now it's time to search for manufacturers. Here is a few tips how to do it (and how I have done it)
    1) Search for manufacturer by manufacturer name. Do not add product name to keyword, just the name of brand. Most times they will be the first ones in the list.
    2) If that doesn't happens try to add some of those keywords to brand name.
    a) manufacturer
    b) official website
    c) distributor
use common sense, once again, do not add product name otherwise you will find a lot of people who sell that brand, not manufacturer of it.

Here is how to identify if it is a manufacturer or another reseller:
    1) Look at URL of website, most manufacturers going to have their name or their name+ products, manufacturer or general keyword which identifies the product.
    2) Most of manufacturers do not sell their products on website, just have catalog or brochures of their product line.
    3) Although most of them don't sell directly to customers, many smaller manufacturers do. In this case good identifier that it is a manufacturer is they have links like locate dealer, become dealer, dealer login ext.
    4) Some if authentic manufacturers don't have that either, in this way read their about us page, 99% of them will mention that they are manufacturer of the product.
Main thing to begin with looking at website url and logo on website, make sure it is manufacturer name and logo.
    5) If they don't have any of that and you still believe that they might be authentic manufacturer (have happen to me) you might call them and ask if they are manufacturer. If they say yes, ask them to become distributor or reseller.

Also, do not become intimidated by size of the company and begin to think that they are too large to work with you. Give them a call, most manufacturers who would not sell it to you will forward you to some one who will. Be clear with what you would like to sell and don't lie hoping that you will look bigger than you are. If you looking to dropship, say upfront that you are internet retailer and do not want to purchase stock. If you do like to stock their products tell them the budget to start up or ask what kind of dealer programs they offer. This will save you and them a lot of time and unnecessary phone calls.
Well, I think this would be all I have to say for now. Ask questions, I'll try to answer them to my best knowledge. Hope it will help some one to avoid headache of searching for products as well as spending a lot of money on locating manufacturers through companies who supposed to help you do the job you will not be able to do without their help. Also you will be able to find many more companies who supply your products than you would through some of those websites.
    Good luck to you all!!!
