So far, backlinks on your GWT gives higher value.. Google will not show all backlinks they've indexed for sites.
But yahoo will give you almost all backlinks to your site. Try it on: http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com
You can use either Google Webmasters or search link:www.mysite.com for exact back links information..
Yahoo Site Explorer will shutdown at the end of the year. You will find the backlinks of your sites within the bing webmaster section. As regarding the backlinks from other sites, you will have to use a backlink tool like openl link explorer, sitefactor or others.
There are tons of software packages to do this. It is important to use one of these as they tend to be very accurate.
my site don't show the links when i type link:mysite.com what should i do now? i really don't get any kind of information by doing this. i use yahoo site explorer. but its also going to be down. thanks
The free version of Traffic Travis software will show backlink results, and how the competition stacks up against yours for backlinks.
But frequent checking of your back-links from search engines by using any kind of third party software may lead your site banned... Its always better to see the results in webmaster tools..
One area where Yahoo beats Google is in showing the exact number of backlinks but that is because of Google's predilection for details: Google tends to show you both the links from other sites as well as the internal links from your pages. So, if you want to show only the links from other sites, remove the internal links to your own pages first. Using the Google Webmaster Tool is great too. All you need is to open an account and choose the 'your site on the weblink' from the dash board whenever you wish to know your backlinks. You can also use a web information company such as Alexa.com, checksitetraffic.com, xmarks.com, markosweb.com and more. These would usually show you the number of sites linking to your site. There is also the Back Links Watch. Then, the Yahoo Site Explorer. My take on this is: Use as many of these as possible, and come up with an idea. It mustn't be EXACT.
Try downloading a free copy of SEO Spyglass from link-assistant.com . It queries many engines to find all you links. It's a great piece of software that I use everyday.
Don't worry about the backlinks. I know that you would like to have an idea about the progress you are making but just keep creating backlinks. I used to get too wrapped up in that stuff and it really slows down your productivity.
Nothing is 100% perfect. But, you can try SoeQuake Add-on in your Firefox browser. It shows backlinks according Google and Yahoo.
