How to find out SPAMMY websites

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by TPvinod, Jul 10, 2013.

    I have 2 questions.

    1) I'm trying to be a guest blogger on various blogs and I come across a lot of blogs on a daily basis. Can anyone tell me how to find a site is a 'good' site and one that can be termed a 'spammy site'?

    2) Does getting backlinks for my site from spammy sites affect my page in terms of Page Rank or SEO?

    Please help.

Good site looks good if you see that, treading few paragraphs if there is no grammar, spelling mistakes, the content is meaningful, the on-page optimization is done perfectly, the images which were used on page are relevant, speaking something there is no irrelevant outbound link. Try checking content if they are original or duplicate..

Getting linked from spammy domains will affect the reputation of your domain in Google's eyes and rightly so. Chances are higher that your domains search traffic might drop down at a higher pace or else your site might even get penalized manually or algorithmically by search engines. Sites which people like, talk about, share content from on social media, link to it from their blogs are authoritative and good ones. Sites which have content for the sake of it are the ones which you should ignore.

Check their page rank and post only on those with PR 2 or higher. Read a few articles featured on the sites you're interested in. Do they look spammy? Backlinks from low quality sites will have a negative impact on your rankings.

First impression tells about the quality of the website. Alexa, PR, indexed pages, back links are other ways

What if we provide links to spammy sites from our own sites?

Not intentionally, but if someone asks me to help him out by giving a link back to his website for the guest post he writes, do i need to care about his site?

When you ever do the guest blogging few things you should keep in mind. First of all you check the Page rank of other website and you check the alexa rank and your website category should be same as compare to other website. If spammy will give you backlink then your page rank and SEO can be affected. If you will do the friendship with bad people then your reputation will be decrease and if you will do the friendship with good people then your reputation will be increase so same case apply here.

You can check the website Page rank and alexa rank it will help you a lot to find the spammy website. Guest blogging is still effective if you do it high PR niche website.

Run the url where your post is going to appear through majesticseo.com.

If the citationflow and trustflow is 10+ you should be fine.

If the url got a PR2+, 1K+ Backlinks, 10+ in citationflow/trustflow it's a nobrainer, these links will give you some serious linkjuice.

No one wants to get or give links to spammy sites specially after penguin. To know the quality of the site just check the reputation of the site in that niche and social media engagement etc.

No one creates new sites for spam but I see lots of people still using spammy sites for giving links/guest posting.

If you use spammy sites for link building then your site would also become spam in eyes of search engines..

its risky in the sense that if you got the link from spammy site then it will effect your own ranking, to prevent this, always do research before guest posting on any blog.

These are the main metrics/stuff you want to look at:
    • Domain Authority
    • PageRank (Is the website passing PageRank to other pages/articles?) i.e. check more than one page for PageRank. I find that if a website only has ONE page with PageRank then it's usually a garbage website or an expired domain name.
    • Alexa Ranking
    • Social Media following (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc)
    • Mailer count
    • Google SiteLinks
    • Are people commenting on those blogs? (i.e. is there an on-site following)
    • Are there good links to that blog from high ranking websites? (Use OpenSiteExplorer for this)
    • Is the content any good?
These are all things which I use to determine whether a site is good or bad.
