You do not have to get long tail keywords, better add short related keywords that's enough for SEO...

MarketCap you give some ignorant advice. For some niches, long tail keywords are very important. For example, in some niches most of the shorter keywords are extremely competitive. In that case, many websites would have to rely on long tail traffic to get by.

Unfortunately the Google keyword tool likely isn't the best tool to find long tail keywords. Their results are quite inaccurate. They have also recently changed their results format to automatically include related keywords even if they do not include your searched keyword. So now you have to wade through a lot of competitive keywords to find any good long tail keywords.

Just try entering a bunch of your target keywords and scour through the results for any longer keywords that don't get a whole lot of searches.

Good advice from vasterdam, you have to do manual searching for the Google keyword tool, however it is still the most accurate tool on the net due to it being based on actual search data, whereas tools like wordtracker or seobook or based on the crappy metacrawlers.

I use Google adwords for long tail keyword research... I aint gonna tell you my method, but there is a lot of money to be had if you know what you are doing!

Use several keyword phrases and put them in the title (up to 70 characters or so). I used this in one article that gets 16,000 searches a month due to several keyword combinations.

But you need to check in Google who competes for those keywords. If all pages on the first Google page are strong (high PR), skip that keyword, if you don't have strong site yourself.

I am agree with Boron. Bunch of keywords give better results than a single Long Tail Keyword.

A good way to figure out which keywords to target for your website is to:

    1) Use Google's Keyword Tool.

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Click, 'Website Content' and enter in your website address.

This basically grabs all the relevant keywords that Google thinks is relevant to your website.

    2) Grab the results then put it back into Google's "Descriptive words or phrases" search.

This will output the keywords Google thinks is similar to the keywords that are relevant to your site.

If your AdWords campaign uses these keywords, your cost per click would be lower, because your site is more relevant.

With SEO, if the keyword you're targeting for SEO purposes is already the keywords Google associate with your site, you stand a much higher chance of ranking for those keywords.

A long-tail keyword phrase is generally 3 or more keywords, ex: cheap web design, one way backlink provider, etc
