How to find images

Well my budget is limited a bit for this but I would really like to get a logo and perhaps banner ad(s) made for my site. There is already a post about the logo on this site. However I would like to start gathering some images on the net to be able to use. I am looking for animal images, or rather household pet images. But I am hopeing to find free images to keep the budget down. Yes I know many of you will say that I get what I pay for. But I found quite a few that I liked before but have lost them over time and am starting new. I have tried "Royalty Free" search on Google and sometimes I get something halfway decent but most of the results require me to pay for the image. Would there be a better search term or something.

I enjoy cropping and editing images so I am looking forward to this. But just need to figure out where to look.

    Thank you

Have you tried http://flickr.com ? You can go to the advanced search and specify creative commons, commercial, etc.

Finding the right Image for your website is easy, and google searching is one of them, but as you have said, copyright thing is a no-no. You either ask permission or edit it. Or know the origin of the image and check if it's OK for anyone to get a copy of the picture.:)

But even if I edited it, isn't it still copyrighted?

    http://www.istockphoto.com
stop using google for design images searching
there are tons of 1-3$ royalty free licensed images on the web
    it's not 100-300$ , it's only few bucks

    Hi,
Here is a free site. Load of great images on there.
Note - the first line of images are from the paid "sister site" but the rest are free and mostly royalty free.
The sister site has better quality ones and are reasonable but if you have no budget then the free site is for you.

    Hope this helps

You can search http://commons.wikimedia.org/ and find images that are in the Public Domain.

SXC is also a great resource as some have already mentioned.

    creativecommons.org/

That's where you can find how to share and take something from the community. But forums.digitalpoint.com/ also does the same thing :))

the best way to do it (and not pay) is to go on flickr and just ask permition to the photographer, and tell him that you will link him to his site. cus i just saw on istock the 3 month rates and it is riduculous the amount of money you have to pay. I mean if you have like 10 blogs and you are managing all of them and writing 2 posts a day is fine. but for a new blogger or website owner is better to start slow.
