I know there are lots of ways to see what links you have pointing to your site but is there a way to tell if you have any EDU sites linking to you without having to go through all the .com's etc?

I just use Rank Checker made by Aaron Wall over at SEObook. I have a few edu links on my sites so it's nice to check up on those links once in a while.

I will download my backlinks from webmaster tools and search for .edu. If you don't want to download use following code to search.

    link:www.domainname.tld inurl:*.edu

    Code (markup):

In Yahoo just type the following to get a very accurate list of your .edu links! :)

    linkdomain:YOURDOMAIN.COM +site:.edu -site:.com -site:YOURDOMAIN.COM

I picked up a big EDU site today. I volunteered my time for a faculty member allowing me to place a link on their site. This might not work for every niche but as a webmaster, volunteering your time and experience may lead to a nice link as well as future work from the exposure.
