Nobody can help you out with this as well as the people at the affiliate program management companies. You should have an account rep there - call them and ask them your specific questions about what kind of program you're looking for. They may even have decent enough reporting data that you can find the answers yourself on their web site (most don't). Even better is to get an "insider" on your team who can access the real data and show you the successful referers.

I'm building an affiliate program for a site that targets upper-class customers. We're in the middle of testing it with a few select affiliates (50 right now) and are finding that we're averaging 1 sale/week from each of them. It's not great, but the commission rate is currenlty 25% and the products retail values range from $300 - $10,000, so even with low sales volume it still turns a hefty profit.

I'd prefer it to doing 500+ sales/week and getting the same revenue.

The question is too broad. There are THOUSANDS of answers. So I'm going to recommend an excercise that will help point you in the right direction.

You asked how to find good products / services to promote - well that's a big question but the answer can be defined by YOU!

    1) What is your current site about and who are your visitors? What are they interested in? Find products and services that will appeal to them and THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! For instance if you have a site about travel, don't just promote hotel and airline affiliate programs, add travel insurance, Amazon books about travel and Luggage.

    2) What are you passionate about??? What do you know a lot about? If you can find an affiliate program that ties into your interests or hobbies you will be ahead of the game!!! WHY? Because it can take some time to generate income and if it's something you are interested in it will give you the incentive to keep building more pages PLUS you can add valuable content to your site based on your knowledge of the subject.

    3) Make a list of all the potential products and services that you think may be a good fit for either your existing site or a new niche site based on #2. Then go to Commission Junction, LinksShare, BeFree, ShareaSale or one of the affiliate directories like Refer-it and find several programs then compare the commission, cookie length and potential of the programs. Course it all boils down to conversions which is not easy to tell without trying the program.

Now to answer the question "how to find good products / services to promote” Well it depends, and as you can see there is no easy answer, but I hope I have given you some guidelines and tips to ponder.

After you pick a couple of markets or products you are interested in, come back and share and we can try to let you know about some of the good ones.

There will be a press announcement on Monday about a new affiliate program for Web Stats Gold.Com's web analytics package. This program will pay 30% per month for 12 months. In order to apply, you will need to send an email with some information about your business, amount of traffic and your link.

If you have a decent amount of traffic and do a reasonable job of preselling the product, conversion is high, as the product is good value. Go have a look and see what you think.

    Regards,

    WTG
