First let me share with you a fact.

some think that Google give more attention to EDU and GOV sites and backlinks, it's mistake

Google give more value to high authority sites, and naturally EDU and GOV site have high authority. but there are always COM and NET site with better authority and higher PR.

Just for the sake of link building you shouldn't approach a .edu site, one should have a very good content, a brand name or a company with good reputation, and above all a very good solid reason. Below mentioned are the few legit and best way to get links from .edu sites.

Third, guest lectures at universities. If the CEO or COO or Marketing Manager of your company gives a guest lecture at the university, it not only gives you links it can also provide a very good brand name for your company.

A mistake that's done most often by many is posting in .edu sites which doesn't have any page rank. You won't get good conversion, traffic, CTR etc just by posting in some page, if you are trying to get link from .edu sites through link baiting then try to get the link from their homepage. That's why i mentioned in my above comments, we shouldn't approach a .edu site just for link building.
