Well for me i use two technique to find out the do follow links , First i like all the time is fireforx no-follow addon which is the best tool i ever have used so far. Second trick is a lil bit tough , i use to find out other's website's backlink with do follow attribute. But i will suggest No-follow addon for firefox.

i think you can build links from relevant sites whatever dofollow or nofollow links and i know that nofollow links are worthless but if you build links on youtube, google, yahoo then they are nofollow links but authority websites link it will be very helpful to get boost your ranking
SEO Quake crossed out the nofollow links, so when you go into a page- you can just look at the links and see if they are dofollow or nofollow (and not bother with opening up the source code). As for directories- some really are accurate, but many include low PR sites or sites that have nofollow links, so I would be careful with those.
