How to find content to add to my blog?

Discussion in 'Blogging' started by notrobert, Apr 23, 2007.

I'd like to start a blog on technology and interesting devices that come on the market, I'm thinking something along the lines of boingboing or lifehacker.

These sites seem to update multiple times per day and have multiple authors.

As a single person, how could I find 3-4 interesting developments in the world of technology on a daily basis on which I could blog on daily?

    Thank you

Try cnet and tomshardware and other "geeky" sites like that.

Chances are though, people will go there first seeing as they are big in the tech game. I too am blogging on tech, and have asked myself the same question :p

(I'm only just starting to blog)

Simplest place to get this kind of information would be to frequent technology news sites (cnet, zdnet, anandtech etc.) and social bookmarking websites.

You don’t need to update the blog few times every day for it to be successful, start off slowly and try to build a fan following and you might just meet some one who would be interested in teaming up with you.

Also the local newspaper is good for content. If you want to throw in your opinion here and again some people might want to read what you have to say.

try to buy posts! for a small fee, you can get people to post on your blogs.
you just need to add about 1-2 posts per week! and it will be fine!:)

Here's another idea ... check out the sites that other movers and shakers subscribe to, then add them to your feed reader. For example, here are all the feeds subscribed to by Robert Scoble (an influential blogger):

    Scobleizer's blogroll in UML

Just save and import into your favorite reader. Tons of others have their blogrolls available via bloglines or straight UML. By utilizing their feeds, you'll have access to the same data they have. Then it's just a matter of finding interesting stuff in the feeds and posting it.

    Anita :)

PRWeb is an excellent resource for new breaking news stories and products. Their site is broken down into topics which makes navigation very simple.

If you're going to tons of other popular blogs for ideas, the odds are that people may already know about what you're finding. Why not do some scouring of the internet to find your own cool stuff coming out? Beat everyone else to the punch and you're sure to get some reall traffic.

I have to agree with this comment -- be careful finding content just from other popular blogs -- all you are doing is riding bigger sites coat tails. I started a gadget blog and I try to mix it up with not only electronic IT gadgets but also personal care items/household items ..etc

feel free to check it out -- more than happy to link exchange

Scouring the Web for tech news and new gadgets will never get your blog to the forefront in your niche (and the same is true for any niche). The only way to do that is going to be to get the jump on the others, and the only way to do that is to start agressively building relationships with PR people at tech companies. It's going to be difficult to do that with the large companies while your blog is unknown, so your best bet to start is to look for new, up-and-coming tech companies, and get on their media lists asap. Break a few stories from smaller companies, and getting larger companies to add you will be much easier. In tech, it's especially tough though.

Why would you want to find content?

Write your own content that is unique - using duplicate content from other sources isn't going to help you promote your blog. People want to read interesting unique content.

Try to post often and if you want to use content off news sites, just quote a snippet of text and write your own content.
