For starters, check out the Google Analytics Keyword Tool. You can search keywords and get information like monthly searches, average CPC, etc.

Let me share mine, I have used Google Adwords Keyword tool, but I only made that once for an hour... then I have decided my main keywords... then today when I write articles I always use my main keywords plus a specific keywords forming a long tail keyword that look like this: main keyword + specific keyword, say: make money online + by using facebook fan pages

    How to analyze keywords?
You have the monthly global and local search made for a particular kw with its competition, so if you choose the kw with high competition then get ready for the fight...

I consider number of searches, competition, plus the CPC - it's important too :)

But note I am not expert...

Here’s how to use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool:

    1. Enter a keyword or phrase into the first “Word or phrase” field. For this example, I’m going to use the keyphrase “yoga studio”.
    2. Enter in your website’s homepage URL into the “Website” field. It just so happens that there is a company out there called “The Yoga Studio” in Brookline Village, MA and their homepage URL is “hxxp://www.yogastudio.org”, so we’ll use them for our example.
    3. Select the business category that corresponds to your business under the “Category” field. I’m selecting “Yoga & Pilates” under Sports & Fitness>>Fitness>>Yoga & Pilates.
    4. There are a couple of options you can use to filter the keyword results which you can access by clicking the “+” button next to the “Advanced Options and Filters” link. This part can be useful if you’re marketing to other countries.
    5. Type in the characters that appear in the captcha picture and click the “Search” button.

First, you need to check if the kw has got any traffic. Then you can consider how easy or difficult it would be to rank it based on the cardinal rules of checking kw competitiveness. ie average page rank of top 10 results, ave and median back links, kw in title and meta description for top 10 results etc.

    1) open Google ad word tool
    2) Put your keyword in word or phrase option
    3) Then select broad option from match type drop down menu
    4) leave all rest fields blank
    5) fill out captcha or you can also filter your search, by advancing it to a specific country location
    6) Select the keyword with low competition and high global and local searches from the search result
