Hey guys, I opened this new thread to discuss the differnet ways of filling a new born directory with thousands of websites. Ok. let's imagine that we have just started a new directory, in my opinion the marketing of all directory websites will be devided in two levels: 1- First we need to market the directory for the webmasters who want to add their websites into the directory. 2- Then we can market the directory for all people to use it everyday. I guess the first part of the marketing which is for the webmasters is much more difficult comparing the second one. What are your suggestions? For example my own website is a web hosting directory, do you think I better find the webhosting companies myself, and add thier hosting plans in to the directory myself or I should email them and invite them to add their sites into the directory? or maybe I should optimize the site for search enigne rankings and do lots of link exchange activities to let the web hosting providers find me from the search engines and add their websites? Anyway, let us discuss about this issue in detail. Thank you,
just go to every webmaster forum and post about your directory and then check all directory lists and contact all owners to add your directory.. As for the second, people don't really use directories every day.. How often do you go to a directory, unless you want to submit your site??? So the only traffic is from webmasters, unless you turn it into something more than a directory..
thanks. People usually will use my directory, because they can decide about their hosting company and they can compare the hosting plans. This is very specific field that I entered.
