How to figure out about words combination -seo?

beauty-fashion.html is considered one word or two words?
OR

Which one is counted as two words as per google. Any google guidelines link you can suggest for it.

Here is what I found out from the quotes from Matt Cuts of Google in one of the SEO seminars for search engine:

And speaking of putting a dash in URLs, hyphens are often better than underscores [Ed. Note: bolded by Matt ]. african-elephants.html is seen as two words: “African” and “elephants”. african_elephants is seen as one word: african_elephant. It’s doubtful many people will be searching for that.

Those who are not sure, will find this very useful.

I disagree. Maybe in the past, but Google is smart enough to differentiate. Search for 'seo tips'.

The 10th result's URL is rssdiary.marketingstudies.net/content/quick_rss_seo_tips.php

Google highlights it as such:
rssdiary.marketingstudies.net/content/quick_rss_seo_tips.php

Therefore it is reading those two words in the URL

( "-" "_") This is only a separator.

 

both counted as 2 words. but don't use underscore as a separator. Use "-" hyphen.
Google give preference to "-" as compare to "_"
