how to fade in Fireworks?

I'm using an old version of firework.

If I wanted to fade out around the side of an image how would I do that?

For example if I wanted white clouding round the side - or if i wanted to blend 3 images together for a logo?

    Many thanks

Great in depth explanation there cyberspirits :)

rightz: Select the image and click Commands > Creative > Fade Image. Select the fading option you need.

That's assuming you have the fade option on your "old version" of fireworks.

Thanks for the suggestions guys - i've had a go at masking and the images seem to disapear when i do this so i am a little confused.

    My version is fireworks 3

No fade option in command > creative

    just:

    convert to grey scale
    convert to sepia tone
    create picture frame

If masking is the right way to go can someone please help me out. I've followed the help file suggestions but as said above the images disapear apart from the overlap - which is not exactly what i am looking for.

    Thanks

You will need to do the following (assuming you can in V3!):

    - create a shape (e.g. a rectangle) with a black/white gradient on it
    - this needs to be on top of the image you are going to mask
    - select both the shape and the image
    - click Modify > Mask > Group as Mask

The gradient determines how much of the image you see through the mask; white area of the mask allow all the image to show through whereas black areas of the mask completely block view of the image. Grey areas are partially transparent.
