How to evaluate if an adsense site will be worthwhile ?

I've been browsing the forums for a while now, reading posts and asking questions. I cannot however get a grip on these adsense earnings.

I have learned that the CPC are depend on the bidprice of the keywords wich the advertisers are paying. Furthermore I know that google does not comment on amount of earnings. So, I would like to ask some questions based on an example wich I am making up ... right now :

Let's say that average bidprice on keywords that I am targetting for is ... $2.00 .. I would set up my site correctly and place the adsense on the site. My site would for instance attract 1000 visitors a day and it would have a reasonably good SE ranking. The CTR would be about 10 % wich is 100 visitors clikcing on some kind of adsense add.

How would I know based on all these facts if a between wich percentages a click on an add MIGHT earn me ?? I mean, could it be that I'd earn 10% from the bidprice ? Or is 1% very commone ? Or could it even be 50 % ??? And what does this height basicly depend on ? It's just all so unclear.

Can someone explain this to me ? Or can someone give me some 'real-life' examples based on their experiences ?

gdev - u have to suck it and see. There are too many variables for anyone to give you a definitive answer here.

Even high paying keywords can be subject to smart pricing and on top of that the high payers may opt out of content sites.

I have a mortgage site that used to get over $4 a click but now gets less than $0.50.

But still I'd imagine that a high bidprice would be the better startingpoint no ?

    Hi Gdev,

All other variables being equal, a higher bid price = a higher payout. However, "all other variables" covers a LOT of variables. If you're looking for a good starting strategy, I'd suggest targeting keywords with "in the middle" bid prices. If you target keywords with low bid prices (e.g. $0.05), you'll have almost no competition, but will make almost no money per click. If you target keywords with high bid prices (e.g. $50.00), you'll make a lot per click, but will have so much competition it will be difficult to create traffic. I've found that working in the range of $2.00 - $5.00 provides nice balance between the two (all figures US dollars) - but the only way you'll know what kind of results you'll achieve is if you take the leap and try it out. :)

    HTH,
    Sam

If the question still is, How to evaluate if an adsense site will be worthwhile?

My goal would be traffic first, adsense later. Every high paying keyword out there is very competetive, therefor its just that much harder to get traffic. I would focus not on making a site for high paying keywords because its difficulty but focus on less competitive keywords that bring in traffic and still pay an ok amount.

But if you want to go for a high paying keyword the only advice I can give is you have to test it. Which could be a waste of time and money.

Thats an almost impossible question to answer without knowing the type of site it is. There are different methods I would use depending on the site.

traffic.... build back links first (e.g. post your mesg on forums, exchange link with other sites on similar topic as yours... etc), then your site will be indexed by major SE. You have to optimize your page with good SEO... then you will get traffic...

So you are going to choose a topic based on that topic attracting a good earning per click then make a site for it? Is that right? Regardless of what you may or may not know about the subject?

So isn't that the very definition of a "Made for adSense" site?

personally from my experiences, before adSense and after, trying to promote a site outside of subject I am familiar and involved with is very hard.

Interesting post. I actually setup a site based on a high paying keywords a while back. My payout varies but is generally in between $1 and $2 per click still now. The problem is that not many people are coming to the site. Traffic is the key. I even rank higher then the actual company though oreck-air-filter.com I have some traffic and good payouts now I need to increase the traffic with more content. (I think I might start a forum)
