I read once that google has 8 times more searches then overture tool shows.

    Whats your experience?
are there any other ways to estimate real google search volume for specific phrase?
(besides hacking into google database )

I think it varies quite a bit, but as an example I rank 1 & 2 for a term that Overture says gets 250/day. Yesterday that term brought in 193 unique visitors (From Google). Of course not everyone searching clicks on my link, but I'd say that 8 times is an overstatement.

I have some sites that rank at the top of both Google and Yahoo for the same keywords. From what I have been seeing, Google brings many more visitors than Yahoo. These days Yahoo seems to be a non-factor in search engine searches. We used to get a good number of search referreals from Yahoo, but now it is not that much with the same rankings.

From the visitor number, I'd say 8:1 Google vs Yahoo is right in the range.

A simplistic approach to doing this is to take Overture's numbers and then weight them by SE market share. I find this is fairly accurate when researching new niches to build sites around.

For my niche, where my site ranks 1st, I find it at around 5:1

It would depend on the keywords. But I am not sure if 8:1 is average. It should be more like 5:1 or 4:1.

I think it's about 5 times... not more...
Remember Yahoo search is not that bad.

I think this is the most accurate. You can cross reference this information with what the nielsen ratings report for searches performed with Yahoo, Google, and MSN and it looks like everything adds up.

There's no way 8 times as many people use Google than Yahoo. Like King of Kings said, Yahoo search is not bad at all.

Yeah, but if I look at my traffic, 75% of my visitors come through Google, so for the traffic I get it is well over 4:1 ratio, probably more like 8:1

Its not always accurate just x3 since a lot of niches Yahoo beats Google in searches. I find with health related for example Yahoo outperforms them. Trying using better tools than overture anyway it has far to little data, www.keywordcountry.com is my favourite but www.keyworddiscovery.com is pretty good also.

No way this is correct: "How many times that term was searched on last month" as stated in Overture... no way.
i get 100+ uniques day just from google for a specifiec keyword, but overture says it gets 31 (lol) searches for month... ;)
so, at least for me, something is wrong.
