    Hi,

I just started kewlr.com as a social bookmarking site and would love some suggestions for encouraging visitors to sign up.

I know the site should seem active so I'll be submitting stories myself.

    Thanks

You could offer a monthly cash prize for one of the sign ups each month.

Feature the best contributions. Then put them names in a drawing for a couple $5 fast food gift cards.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably start by offering a monthly reward which would go to the member who submitted the story with the most votes or something.

You will learn that it is better to do low amount prizes in mass quantities as you gain some more experience.

I ran a media site and found that only few people sign up and those that do are not active. So I agree with others, you need to offer them something to get involved (50$ gift certificate).

make it beneficial to your members to sign up their friends. ie. get 2 free movie passes when you get 5 of your friends to join and contribute to the blog. I would also give your members acknowledgment for being the most active
