Write great content around the pictures. Pictures are meaningless without great content. All of my pictures are on G images and I recieve 100 hits a day from them. Down side is that they are stolen quickly...lol
Exactly, not only are they stealing your pictures, but your bandwidth as well. I don't blame you though, at one time I thought "Hmm, I bet not a lot of people optimize for the image search in Google, maybe that'd help me out." Then someone brought up the point that most people, including me, use the Google image search simply to harvest images. The chances of someone becoming a regular visitor of yours based on an image they found is very rare, possible, but rare. I'd actually go to the length to add a norobots file to my image directory so my bandwidth is going to better use. If all of this hasn't scared you off or you have a different purpose in mind, then I'd rename your image files themselves with keywords, then put those keywords in the alt tags and surround the image with those words as well. A trifecta effect. -Brian Renner
If you use G Webmaster tools, you can go to Tools >> Enhanced Img Search >> Tick the box and click OK. Also make sure you always: include a descriptive, keyword rich (not spammy) ALT attribute in your img tags include Width/Height attributes (this is crucial) filename yellow-duck.jpg is much better than img00099922.jpg Stick to .JPG and .GIF formats Yeah, and bigdoug also made a good point!
