    Hello,

I am not good at wordpress,

I just create a new blog on wordpress and installed a new theme, but when i try to Edit it using Wordpress Editor, update button is not appearing.

i think i have to change the file permissions using FTP Client but i don't know how to change the permissions correctly.

    Can anyone guide me.

Download WinSCP, FTP into your hosting account. Locate wp-content/themes/yourTheme/ (should be in public_html/ somewhere) - right click your themes directory and go to 'Properties' set the 'Octal' to '0755' and tick the box that says 'Set group, owner and permissions recursively'.

    Hi,

If you know how to use it, you can use Dreamweaver or if you have a cpanel web hosting account, cPanel's built-in File Manager which will allow you to edit the theme files directly in your browser just as you would using the WP editor. Of course, make sure to backup your entire blog/WP site before you try to make any changes whatsover. I can't emphasize on this point enough. Never take things for granted and get into the habit of making regular backups of your site.

yes, it's better to edit directly the templates files than using WP admin area,

make a back up first !

If update button not appearing, could it be a plugin caused it? will it still happen if you have "default wordpress theme"? i usually edit from appearance/editor, and open the code in html editor (to me, notepad++) and paste it back in then updating.

I also have a saved copied theme in my pc, in case i want the original theme file.

I've noticed this problem in WP before. It's sometimes caused by the theme being used because you'll see the update button in other themes. Maybe the theme author doesn't want you to be making changes there.
