How to edit Instance editable tags?

    I've been given the job of looking after a friends website. The major problem I'm having at the moment is I cant figure out how to edit the Instance Tags.

    At the top of the page is <!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/palmgrove.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" --> so I have edited the palmgrove.dwt file but it hasn't changed anything.

    What I'm trying to do is change the analytics code.

    Not sure if this is enough info for anyone to help but I would really appreciate any help on this.

    open the file in notepad, then change the code you need to. However, if the page is attached to a template you will lose the changes you have made when you update the template it is attached to
