Link spammers are back in Google with full force and good site are being moved down/removed from SERP's.
Here's what I found today. If you do a search for your keywords and then add BRACKET/urlBRACKET then you will find link spammers. They use that to insert links into blog comments and anywhere else it accepts it.
One key word phrase I checked, 1.2 MILLION pages were link spamming! 1.2 MILLION pages out of 1.4 million pages. WTH is Google doing? Counting spam-links?
I don't understand why Google can't find this and do something about it easily, especially when *I* can and I am not even a PhD yet?

Check this search: cheap BRACKET/urlBRACKET and look at the results.
Out of 12 million pages I am sure millions of pages are link spammers! Look at the results and you'll see the links in the description. Now, how could Google miss this simple check?????

Even if they did these two searches return totaly different results.

    College

    College BRACKET/urlBRACKET

So whats the big deal ?

Look at the result that starts with BBS:Scanner
Then if you look at the description you'll see what I am talking about. These are links that has been inserted into web sites like blogs.
Next page have this link: florida prepay college
    Same thing there!
Check out a search for cheap and add the BRACKET/urlENDBRACKET and look at the results.
NOTE: YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE BRACKET AND ENDBRACKET WITH THE KEYS ON YOUR KEYBOARD SINCE I CAN'T POST THE REAL KEYS HERE! IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, EMAIL ME HERE!

I couldn't get it to work :( but that's exactly what I mean.
Check out all your sites and your key phrases. If you have a site that's using AdSense or Clickbank and you make money from it, then you can be sure to find link spammers.

The big deal is that when you link spam like they do, you get better ranking in Google because they have links pointing to their sites.
    read this
How does this affect your sites? A lot of incoming links (and Google seems to give all links the same weight right now) means better ranking, so if your site has 10 incoming links and a spam site has 50 from link-spamming, which one do you think have the best chance in SERP's?

but that's where it started I think... then we got blogs where people could post comments. Then there are all other sites that allow people to be "interactive" and post their thoughts. All these sites are vulnerable to link-spam.
I do not allow anyone to post anything before checking it out first. If I have a PHP page where people can post, I check for spam before even allow it into my database.

Link spammer sucks big time and cause a lot of problem.

I usually use yahoo to do this.

Go into yahoo & use linkdomain:typethedomainnamehere

You can also use it to see if they're getting their links from .edu or .gov etc etc

Looks like most of the link spam is for porn and gambling (big surprise), as I wasn't able to find one of these for any of my keywords.

But I'm guessing what spammers are doing is - because a robot can't tell the difference between a blog and a forum, or what sort of code either of the two takes, it adds both html and BBcode, or whatever that [/url] crap is, just to make sure that the link ends up in the right place. Well done spammers!!!

1000 links to blog entries with pagerank 0 can't beat one from a pagerank 8. So there.

    Horse puckey.

Its always quality of quantity. If not, any page that was on top of the SERPs for an extended period of time would never go down. A website on page 1 garners lots of pagerank 0 links from scraper sites, but, I can still beat it out with just a few quality backlinks. A scraper site links are weighted about as much as comment spam.

    This is very intereting.

Not sure what we can do to stop them from using our sites.

My forums are one of the effected areas.

I need to wrok on them.

    Thanks
