[sorry for my English] From my point of view ( I'm a newbie ) , a blog with some content could attract search engine, and you can use it to translate your affiliate link in a friendly url ( eg: yoursite.com/recommend/product instead of aaa.hop.clickbank.com ) Also, you could use Google Adwords to advertise your products.. What ahuddy said is right. But there's something missing in between. You need to be good at marketing and need to constantly do advertising. Divert the traffic to the merchant's website and you will make money if they decide to buy the things that you promoted.
you want to build good links to your site and do quality seo so that google likes you site too ... good search engine rankings are most useful!

Here's a different variation: Instead of your step 4 I've been copying the graphics off of the products sites, manipulating them to create graphic ads in Paintshop Pro, and promoting the ads/banners wherever I can. The visual ads obviously link to my hoplink. I just started this and it cost me $50 to make my first $25 sale, but I'm changing my PPC bids and expect to make a profit within two weeks.
