    Depends what type of site you are building ... subject, niche, content, type... Adsense is pretty good option but maybe you could go with something better and probably more profitable like affiliate programs and similar...

    lot of ways,

    you can upload some advertising links like AdSense . Adbrite, bidvertiser etc also you can make your site popular and increase the PR and sell the site.

    adsense really works but for the mean time i suggest you first focus building your site after then you may focus studying on how to make it earn.

    there are many ways to monetize your website ..just search on google "how to Make Money with Your Website"..
    but i think first build your site with unique and good content and after that you can add adsense ,affiliate , Text Link Ads..etc

    Get lots of traffic, you can have all the affiliate schemes and ads you want, but if nobody is coming to your site, you won't make money from it. Concentrate on SEo and getting traffic to start off with.
