So my company is looking to break our current blog into two separate blogs (covering both divisions of our company) instead of one joint blog. What is the best method of accomplish this task. My thought is take an exact duplicate of our current blog (Wordpress Install, Theme, Plugins, everything) and install them into new directories (domain.com/topic-1/blog and domain.com/topic-2/blog).

Once we have exact duplicates in each directory, delete the pages and posts that don't correspond with that section. Then 301 Redirect urls from original blog to the correct page on corresponding blogs? In theory, this seems alot easier than what it probably will be. Is this the best way to do this? If not what are your suggestions?

Thanks for the help in advance

When you export, just export by category or author.
You will still need to do the 301 redirect for the URL's that are already indexed into the search engines.
With the exception of that, it actually should be pretty easy.

You can make it even easier (for the company) if you run both of those blogs from the same admin by setting up the Multisite functionality.
