Facebook Marketing 101 - How I drove thousands of targeted unique visitors to my site

    * Disclaimer - This will take weeks of effort and patience. It can also destroy your servers if done properly :D

    Create a Profile

The first thing you must do in order to achieve Facebook marketing success is create a profile. Simply head over to Facebook and register. Once your account is all set up, the fun can begin!

While creating your profile pay the most attention to these areas:

Contact Info: Within your contact info you should place your website's URL.
Personal Info: Within your personal info you should include items that are relevant to your niche. If there is a book, activity, song, or movie pertaining to your niche - add it here. This will provide your profile with more trust and relevance.

Become a Part of a Community

Once your profile is complete, you should venture into the world of Facebook Groups. Search and join groups that will provide you with the best return on your investment. The most important aspect of a group is the activity of the group. If the group is active and only has a hundred or so users, it is still better than a group with thousands of members and low activity. Be sure to only join groups with less than 1,000 members, the reason for this will be covered later on in the article.

Note: At first you should only join a few groups (3-5), this will allow you to focus in on becoming an active contributor to each and every group you join.

While contributing to groups be sure to do the following:

Post an interesting/relevant topic for discussion on the group's discussion board. By starting an interesting conversation on a group profile, you can draw attention to yourself and your knowledge within the niche. You will also establish some sort of credibility within the group.

Stay up to date with the group's Wall. The Wall is the most visible advertising platform on a group page and staying on-top of the ongoing conversation will demonstrate your commitment to the group. This will be very important for you when you are ready to capitalize on your efforts.

Become Friends with others in the Community

Once you have spent the time and effort becoming a valuable member of the community you should begin to make friends with others within the niche. If a user has responded to one of your topics, or has engaged into conversation with you on the group's wall in the past, ask the user to be your friend.

When asking for a friendship, keep this in mind:

Facebook is a different kind of social network since it is based around real-life relationships; this isn't Myspace where everyone will accept your friend request. When asking someone to be your friend add a personalized note to the request. Within the note mention an interest of the user's within your niche or reference the topic of discussion you both participated in. This will dramatically increase the chances of your friend request being approved.

    Build Trust and Interest

Now that you have some friends, you have to establish the fact that you are personally trustworthy and interesting. Add fun Facebook applications to your profile that your friends might find interesting. Share quality links with friends regarding your niche (not your own website). Post notes about interesting current events within your niche for your friends to read (again not for personal gain). After a few weeks of providing interesting and quality content, your friends will be interested in nearly everything you do.

    Capitalize

Now you have gone through the long process of becoming an active member of a community and interesting friend to others. This is the time to capitalize on your hard work. Find your most interesting article / game / website / application / product within your niche and advertise it to your targets.

Here are the best methods of advertising your service to friends:

Post a Note with a link to your service. If you have truly become an interesting member of your community and interesting friend, this will work wonders. Be sure to tag as many friends as you can in the note.

Share an Item with your friends. Similar to a note, this will provide a link to your service directly to your friends. This will also work very well.

Post on your friends wall. This is an amazing way to directly provide your friend with a link to your service. Not only will the user surely read your post, but all of his/her friends will see the link on her profile.

Here are the best methods of advertising your service to your groups:

Post a topic of discussion based around your product or service. If you have created other interesting topics pertaining to your niche in the past, this should drive loads of traffic for you.

Post a link to your service on the group's wall. Again if you have proved to be interesting and trustworthy in the past, this should drive tons of traffic.

Contact the group admin directly about sending a message to all members pertaining to your link. Admins can only send messages to their group if said group has less than 1,000 members. Facebook disables this feature once the group reaches 1,000 or more members in order to prevent spam. If the admin is interested in your product and has taken notice to your contribution to the group in the past, you will hit the jackpot. I have received hundreds/thousands of relevant users to my site with a simple admin message to all the group members with my link.

    Conclusion

Facebook can be a wonderful marketing tool with some patience and effort. Simply contribute value to both groups and friends and eventually you will reap the benefits. In the past I have directed thousands of targeted unique visitors (over a day or two) with 5 minutes of "capitalizing."

    For More

If you want me to provide you with a direct example of how I applied Facebook marketing to my niche you can contact me via Facebook. Simply add me as a friend and send me a personal message with your question! I will add anyone as a friend and answer all questions pertaining to my Facebook marketing success. I want everyone to understand that Facebook is a great marketing tool, and will become even more important in the near future.

After spending a few weeks building up the ground work there is still only a chance that the admin will do it.

I am not to happy about that part. Unless there is something I am missing?

Yes there is only a chance a group admin will post your link/product/blog. But for every group you are active in and involved with your chances go up. After a few weeks you should be in 5 or so groups. All it takes is one message for you to get some great traffic. When I followed my process I had 2 admins out of 5 send their group the message. For me a 40% success rate.

Also, the admin message is just one of the many traffic gainers.
