i have read and seen so many sites having huge impact and driving huge traffic , how they did it? i know how to a certain level, 15k rang in alexa , but how to explode your site to the 6th dimension? i mean to 1k-500 in alexa i have seen guys do it just using blogs , any one has an idea or ideas , good ones?
I'm not 100% sure as I have never had a blog, but looking at things, it seems that blogs are much easier to promote than alot of other types of sites as you have all of the Blog RSS feed submissions directories, you have the Blog Ping sites, you have Google Blogs search and other blogs search, etc. I would think that once you can get the traffic to your blog, then you can easily promote your site from it by maybe writing a post about your site or featuring it in the blog a few times.
Its a combination of the following: 1. Great advertising (Payperpost maybe?) 2. Great SEO 3. Great marketing on social networks such as myspace, facebook, digg, etc 4. Great Original Content I think I abused the word "great"
If you are diligent with your tagging and use many web 2.0 sites you should be able to build some traffic.
I've always used the same tactics that I use to drive traffic to regular static websites. The line between a static website and a blog is blurring. Blogs may be a little easier to integrate tagging and Web 2.0 strategies.
Alexa can be deceiving, there are so many ways to trick it. Also if it's a webmaster blog it will tend to have a lower alexa rank because more webmasters have the bar installed then normal users.
Whenever I make a new post to my blog I ping it with a service like Pingoat. Also I stumble every new post, and this seems to drive a few hundred people to my blog. Submitting my blog posts to places like Digg have seemed to be effective in terms of SEO and visitors.
so many people get this idea wrong..its not so much in how to promote..its what your site is about FIRST...that will dictate how to promote, and there are many ways to do it, but only a few GREAT ways to do it. Example a social site/web 2.0 can be done as de5151 touched on above..whereas lets say a static and generic product /ecommerce site must be marketed COMPLETELY different..example, who on digg wants to read a story about alligator shoes? Yet if you have a social site and have a blog post about how alligators are attacking more people lately, or how to tame an alligator etc etc..THEN 2.0 tactics will work for that site..naturally. Focus on the site first, then follow with the right strategy accordingly..
