Hi guys, Last time I wrote an article for those of us who are new to AdSense. This time I would like to share a more sophisticated technique that can dramatically increase your AdSense earnings (100% legetimate of course). This is also a comprehensive (with a case study) answer to that question that keeps coming back on the forum on how one can boost his CPC by showing just one ad unit. I hope you will find it interesting and benefit from it. Here you are : How to double your earnings showing fewer ads Don't forget to give feed back and link to the page if you like the content.
Well my average earn per click was ~$0.07 Now it is $0.10. Although I haven't actually doubled my earnings, $0.03 more for every click is OK
You are right, however it depends on what CTR you are using: 1. CTR = clicks / impressions 2. CTR = clicks per ad unit / ad unit impressions It is the second definition I am basing the strategy on so there is no reason the CTR decreases because it is not affected by the other ad units. As you are in a low paying niche the effect isn't as strong as it could be, but 50% can help two espacially if you are already making $300 a month. Still you shouldn't draw conclusions (even positive ones) on a short testing period. Let me know if it continues in the next days. Thx for your comment guys
Hi Thanks for the thought-provoking entry. Your example works because you assume the bottom ad in the page - the half banner - has a CTR of 4% and the top banner only has a CTR of 1%. But this isn't normal, I think. My channel testing has previously shown that the banner/ad at the top of a page usually gets a CTR 2x higher than the ad at the bottom of the page. So in this situation it wouldn't work to remove the top ad. Am I misunderstanding or have you found that the ad at the bottom of the page gets a higher CTR? Cheers
To give your site a little credibility, you should really pay closer attention to spelling and grammar. On the 'Adwords / Adsense pricing explained', in the first three lines alone there are four spelling mistakes. "Understanding how Google determines the value of a click trough AdWords / AdSense is a key issue because the princing model is complexe while being crutial for your business ROI. We'll first expose the general process and then get look at realistic case study." Hard to take advice from some one who isn't willing to take the time to proof read their own work.
Like I argued in my other thread: Less ads more revenue? Tale or truth? I really doubt that fewer ads will bring you more money. In your made up case study you define that the last ad is the one with the highest CTR. You also define that if you remove all other ads the unit will at least get the same if not higher CTR. But would that be true? If you remove 2 ads before the last one to get higher paying ads you forget that the unit now shows ads that had been shown in your other ad banners before on another position. People click ads because they are interested in them not the location or numbers of ads. Like I stated in my other thread: But to prove my point I am running the experiment with my website We will see what gives better results and higher earnings. I still believe showing less ads brings more revenue is more of a tale then the truth. StarBuG
Thx for all the replies, I will try to answer some questions : This is not as rare as one might think. For example in a forum the ads that are shown whithin the thread have a better CTR than those shown close to the logo. When you say that the banner/ad at the top of a page usually gets a CTR 2x higher than the ad at the bottom of the page you are right if the top banner / ad is placed in the content (under the page title for ex) not in the top top site banner beside the logo... I think that credibiliy comes from the content in the first place. However, you are completely right but should probably have a look at some blogs to see I am not doing so bad (I know it is not an excuse but...). Thanks for reading in such difficult conditions and wellcome to the forum! I believe all adsense ads are interesting because the strength of adsense is contextual targetting so interesting text => related ads => interesting ads for the reader interested in the article. I also believe from my personal experience that palcement, colour... are major factor in an ad performance. Now, let's say that you are right and the CTR decreases. Then more visitor will click your site's links and have another chance of clicking your ads. I will conclude by saying that I have stated two success conditions to this technique. So it is certainly a tale to believe you can boost your earnings when you do not fulfill those two conditions.
When I started my site, I only had 1 ad. Which was at the top. Then I added another ad at the bottom. The ad at the bottom brought in additional income to the one that the top one was making. So I do not believe less ads=more money. If anything its a terrible idea. For example, lets say you are targeted frequently by advertisers for CPM advertising? Maybe they wont get into the first banner on the page, but they might get into the second, meaning an ad that doesnt even need a click is bring in money! So do you want to eliminate them? Also the adverts on a forum after the first post or intergrated with first post from my experience have a terrible CTR of about 0.1%, while the site average is 0.2%, and thats not over a small figure either, thats a whole month with 400,000+ impressions. Looking at all time its 0.09%. So, what have I done to improve ad revenu? I have spliced in some ads that display images only. With a 0.12% CTR its much better (okay, its 0.03% but its a huge amount over a long period) the more important factor being the ECPM is also .02c higher (again not huge, but over large number of impressions it is). But overall I do not think less ads = more money. Pierce
I tried this a few times on various channels that had statistics that were close. I did it over a month with three groups. 1 ad at the top, first thing people see. One ad at the bottom, last thing people see. Ads everywhere. Groups 1 and 2 dropped like a rock the instant I set them up and came back up as soon as I reverted them. 3 was the control and did what it always did. That was on a forum. On webpages I still got owned with group 1 but group 2 did at least as well as the control.
