Facebook has changed their algorithm recently making it harder for your posts to be seen. They did this because they added the promote post option. Regardless, there is really nothing you can do about that. As such, you have to come to a decision. Whether or not, with this decrease in engagement, you'd still like to continue with FB or not. If your answer is yes, you just have to work harder and understand the FB edge rank better. What is Edge Rank ? Edge rank is the algorithm determining the virality of post. Which means the higher your edge rank, the more likely people will see you post in their newsfeed. Believe it or not, even if someone likes your page, majority will never see your posts unless the edge rank for the post is high enough. There are 4 'known' components to the edge rank. Age - The longer the post has been around, the lower the edge rank. Which means people will most likely see a post made 5 minutes ago than 1 hour ago. Likes - The number of likes on a post most definitely affects how many people see your post in their newsfeed. However, it is but the lowest form of engagement an individual can make with a post. Which means it has the lowest impact on edgerank. It doesn't mean it's useless, but just not really effective. Comments - A key factor of whether in edge rank algorithm. If someone takes the time to comment, it sure as hell means your post is worth seeing. Comments are definitely 1 of the hard hitters when you talk about edge rank. Shares - If someone shares something, it would make sense that the post is definitely something worth seeing. Not only that, shares is the easiest way for fresh people who have not liked your page to see your post. Whilst adding to your edge rank. Now that you understand how important each component is, how do you use it to your favor? Understand how to get your post to get maximum virality. If you want to have even a fighting chance for your post to see the light of anybody's newfeed, you really REALLY need to optimize every aspect of the Edge Rank all at once. Which implies a couple of things. Engage with the post yourself. How to get people to engage more with the post? When someone comments on the post itself, you reply to it. Doing so, induces even more replies and pushing up your Edge Rank. Simple, clear cut and effective. Posting at the best timing possible. Why is this important? By posting at the right time, you are aiming for as many people as possible to see your post. Which would give it more engagement early on making it easier for your post to be seen later on when you lose the 'Age' factor of the Edge Rank. This is highly debatable when really is the best time. Unless your page is of only 1 specific country, it's really a hit or miss. This is for your to test and find out as truly, each page is different. Resizing your images Think about it. How many times have you simply scrolled past a post without really seeing what it's about simply because you had to click on it and expand it to see the full image? This is by far 1 of the MOST looked past factor when posting, and one of the MOST detrimental factor to your post going even slightly viral. It is your job to make sure your content catches your viewers eyes. They aren't going to put in the effort to click on your sh*t to see what YOU have to offer. As such, I'd advise that all images be re-sized so that the entire image can be seen when it appears in the newsfeed and NOT when they click on it. The dimensions that I use is 655x655. I also understand that certain images aren't square by nature. As such I usually make the longer dimension to 655, and simply fill the remaining space just black. Doing so makes it look the most natural in the newsfeed. Have a call to action for people to engage with your post when posting a picture. Most of the time what I see is posts that just says something like "Like! Comment! Share!" and it baffles me because I feel that just because you asked me to do it, doesn't mean I should. As such, you really have to be very creative when it comes to things like this. This is a real example of how I get try and get people to like my page. "Every Time You Like , Comment and Share , An African Baby Gets A Mcdonald's Happy Meal , A Snickers Bar And A Night Out Of Town Riding On The Back Of A Velociraptor On A Speeding Fire Truck That Shoots Lasers While Playing Dubstep . Do It For The Kids ." I may seem a little weird, but I ASSURE you , this will have a definitively bigger effect than simply saying sh*t like "Like! Comment! Share!". Add all of this things together, I assure you at least double the engagement, shares and likes. Don't just pick post some bullshit at some bullshit time and have some bullshit text and complain that nothing is working. The problem is you're not working for it. -Hope this helps.
